Port City Nonprofit Network
In the spring of 2020, we experienced the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In an effort to check on my friends in the Nonprofit sector, I began to message everyone I knew, asking how I could pray.
Now, it can be hard to open up about specific needs in the world of Nonprofit, we all know we need money, it’s pretty much a given. Because of this, expressing needs can feel like whining, or worse, beating a dead horse. Most everyone said, “Thanks, we are fine!”, but, one specific contact took a bold step, and was vulnerable. He told me he needed food. The stores were sold out of everything, and he had mouths to feed, he wasn’t sure what to do next.
I read the text, and sat still for a moment, my mind reeling trying to come up with a way I could personally provide him food. Then, an extraordinary thing happened. Someone said to me, “Why don’t you give others the opportunity to be a blessing? Post on Facebook asking who could donate food.” I didn’t want to do that. I feel like I’m a broken record replaying “PLEASE SEND HELP”, online, but that was pride speaking. And after making that short post, I had an SUV full of free food, ready to feed hungry mouths, within 30 minutes.
On my way home that night, I realized that together, we truly are a thousand times stronger, than when we all try to do it by ourselves.
